Our History

SAS Music was founded in January 2004 and initially began as the private piano lessons' studio of Sarah A. Schmitt. The very first Spring Recital in May of 2004 included just 5 students and lasted approximately 15 minutes. Her dedication to her students led her to create many of her own teaching materials and to begin conducting regular workshops which added a group element to their lessons. Sarah's passion for teaching continued to grow, and overtime she was continuously unable to fill the number of lessons requests she was receiving. In 2006, with a vision to provide countless students with quality music education, Sarah decided to expand her company to include many qualified, equally dedicated teachers.

As SAS Music began to grow and evolve, it was apparent there was an increasing need for music events where students of all ages and skill levels could participate. In an effort to meet this need, SAS Music created two events, PianoFest and ChamPianos. The first annual PianoFest, a statewide piano festival for students of all skill levels was conducted in October 2008. At PianoFest, students grades K-12 are evaluated by a professional judge in a non-competitive environment. Its counterpart, ChamPianos, an annual statewide piano competition, was first established in May 2009. ChamPianos offers an opportunity for students of all skill levels to be evaluated by a professional judge in a competitive environment. ChamPianos is unique in that students compete with other students on their same skill level, not by age group.

In August of 2009, the SAS Music lessons program continued to evolve as the owner, Sarah Schmitt, developed and established the Student Awards Program (SAP). SAP is exclusive to SAS Music and is designed as part of a piano lessons curriculum that sets goals and rewards students for their hard work. In 2010 SAS Music began to also offer voice lessons and has several qualified teachers who teach both piano and voice lessons to students of all ages, including adults!

Over the years SAS Music has continued to grow, flourish and evolve into the revolutionary program approach it has today. In the spring of 2011, SAS Music held 5 Spring Recitals with 58 students participating! Even though the recitals now last longer than15 minutes, the one thing that will never change is the dedication to providing the very best in music education to all the students.
